President/CEO, Community Foundation for Brevard
Sandi Scannelli is familiar with every facet of Brevard’s nonprofit community, which encompasses more than 1,500 public charities. The Community Foundation, an independent, nonprofit organization, consists of a family of philanthropists who have created individually named funds that are a charitable gift to the community and managed under the foundation’s umbrella. This year, the foundation completed the Brevard Food Gap Study, which mapped food distribution and needs, to better guide local agency planning, including Congregations for Community Action, which is using the results to convene groups in targeted zip codes to address needs and longer-term solutions. This mapping model is now being replicated in other counties and states. Contributions have increased from 2011 to 2012 (to date) by approximately 156 percent and the amount of Community Foundation funds has increased by 15 percent.
