Dana Kilborne – Florida Bank of Commerce

After coming to the area in 2000 to lead Wachovia’s operation in Brevard, Dana Kilborne was approached by some clients with whom she had discussed a community banking concept. They had an arresting proposal: “If you’ll start a bank and run it, we’ll help you.” It was an opportunity, and as she put it, “Instead of building the business for someone else, we’d do it for ourselves and the community.”

“We focus on the whole client, not just the transaction, and relate to small business owners because we spend time understanding what drives each business owner and the success of his or her company.”

Since that time, Florida Bank of Commerce has expanded to locations in Melbourne, Merritt Island, Orlando, Winter Park, Lake Mary and Kissimmee, while weathering one of the most trying eras in American financial history, nationally and locally. An advocate of local business and a passionate community supporter, she will soon begin a three-year term as director of the Jacksonville Branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta. “I am very excited about the opportunity,” she said. “The purpose of the local boards is really to gather economic information and provide insights into the perspectives of local business leaders.”
