Volunteer Coordinator, Habitat for Humanity of Brevard County, Inc.
Mollie Krell has worked with Habitat for Humanity of Brevard County, Inc. for over four years. She serves as the volunteer coordinator, as well as assisting with family services for the affiliate. In her role, she schedules and interacts with over 4,000 volunteers annually for Habitat’s construction worksites, Restore and annual events such as the Strawberry Festival and mass mailing events. In assisting with family services, she oversees the future Habitat homeowners while they work through the program requirements to fulfill their goal of purchasing their first home.
Krell has been a Brevard County resident most of her life and recently received an AA degree from Brevard Community College (now Eastern Florida State College). After working several years in a retail pharmacy while volunteering at a non-profit adoption agency and local nursing home, she decided that she would be happier in a position that allowed her a chance to change lives and improve the community and was hired at Habitat soon after
Krell enjoys the challenges and rewards of working with the many volunteers and future homeowners. “I think the best part of my job is when I get to take the future homeowners to see the lot where their house will be built or rebuilt. Up until that point, they don’t know exactly where it will be other than the area of the county, and it’s a time full of anticipation and excitement as we make the ride over to the location. I have had people tell me before that it was the ‘ride of their life’ and they will never forget it. I also love it when I get to dispel myths about Habitat, including that we ‘give away homes.’ In truth, the families purchase the home from Habitat with an interest-free mortgage, and they have to work hard to get to that point!”
