Now is a Good Time to Get In Shape

Is it Time to Give Your Company a Check- Up?

In a tough economy like we are currently seeing, now is the time to measure the health and fitness of your company’s structure and operations.  In recent years, our local economy saw huge growth and we enjoyed much prosperity.  Now, we are on a forced diet and have to examine what we’re doing to stay “in shape.”  Like a friend or relative who received a wake up call following a medical episode that requires them to adjust their eating and exercise habits, it’s time for us all to look at our businesses to ensure we are on the right kind of diet and exercising the right moves to assure the health of our businesses.

Take a hard look at your company as it stands now.  Are your marketing efforts targeting customer sectors that are going to generate the maximum return?  Are your staffing levels where they should be or do they need to be adjusted?  Do you have the right products or services to serve your clientele or are there new things you could offer or values that you could add to existing stock that would appeal to them or expand your market reach?  If you aren’t sure about the answers to these questions, it’s time to get help NOW!

Help for Business Health

There are several organizations that can help you in these areas.  One is your local Chamber of Commerce – consider them the “first aid stations” for the business community.  They can help you perform triage on your business by first helping you to determine what is happening and then offering a wide variety of programs and assistance that can help grow your customer base, evaluate your operations, and keep you alive in these most critical of times.

Chambers offer benefits such as free advertising, a free web page on the chamber website so customers can find them, a web link to their website, a ribbon cutting ceremony, free job listings on the chamber website, networking opportunities, referrals through the chamber, table top expos, access to their database for free business lists for target markets, and many different leads groups.

Not Just In Emergencies

Like the gym, the Chambers are in place to be used on a regular basis.  You won’t receive any health benefit by paying your gym fees if you don’t go there to exercise.  It’s the same with your Chamber.  Through regular use of your “partnership privileges” at the Chamber, you can gain more strength in increase sales, more flexibility by identifying potential new markets or better processes, and a better sense of your overall business health.  And, just like a gym, there are many “personal trainers” or “coaches” that have the knowledge to help you succeed, but only if you are willing to act on the information you’re given and commit to that success.
