SolTec Electronics Joins an Elite Group of Electronic Component Distributors

SolTec Electronics has successfully completed the ISO 9001:2008 & ANSI/ESD S20.20 audits, and joins an elite group of electronic component distributors to achieve both of these important certifications. SolTec Electronics will be officially certified once all the paperwork goes through in the next couple of weeks. “We are proud to have accomplished this after just two and a half years in business!!” says Dawn Gluskin, Founder & CEO. She continues, “The entire company and business model have been built with quality control and customer satisfaction in mind, so we have been compliant for quite some time. However, to actually have the certifications in hand is definitely a huge milestone. We are very proud of our team for pulling this off with no major issues or non-conformances!”
In the electronics manufacturing and aerospace sectors, both the ISO 9001:2008 & ANSI/ESD S20.20 certifications are very important. ISO 9001 is a set of standards, which ensures a company has implemented an effective quality management system with the goals of continual improvement and customer satisfaction in mind. “ISO 9001:2008 really took our existing processes and procedures and wrapped them up in a nice package.” says David Gluskin, COO. “Our commitment to quality is number one and we have taken a huge step in showing that with this certification.” Having the ISO 9001 certification in place shows that SolTec Electronics has taken the time and care to create and implement a well-documented quality control system and should definitely have a positive impact on their continual growth and success in the industry.
Michael Rietzel of SolTec, who has a background in electrical engineering and program management led the team on the ESD portion of the audit, explains, “ANSI/ESD S20.20-1999 is the industry-wide standard for the development of an Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) Control Program. It covers the requirements necessary to protect today’s increasingly sensitive electronic parts and equipment from ESD damage. Using the control methods and guidance’s included in the standard, our organization is able to achieve an ESD Control Program to protect devices down to 100v or less.” Of course, this is very important at SolTec. The certification ensures that the technicians handling these sensitive electronic components have been properly trained and that the proper equipment and measures are in place to keep electrostatic discharge from damaging components.
Since it only takes 100 volts (or less!) of electrostatic discharge to ruin an electronic component and simply walking across a carpet alone creates a charge of 1500 to 35,000 volts, you can see that, without proper equipment and training in place, an electronic component can easily be destroyed by an unknowing person. Sometimes, electrostatic discharge damage can initially go undetected in components, but will have failures down the road, when the end-product goes to the market. Especially in life or mission critical applications, it’s no wonder so many high-end OEM and aerospace companies require these certifications from vendors in order to do business.
Prior to obtaining these certifications, SolTec Electronics has been on a fast track of revenue and employee growth. In less than two and a half years the company has gone from $0 to multiple millions in revenue and from 1 to 12 employees, with 10 additional new hires on the schedule over the course of the next few years. Dawn Gluskin says, “We are very excited about having even more doors and opportunities open up with these certifications in place. The company is in a great position to continue it’s growth path!”
SolTec Electronics is a woman-owned small business on the Space Coast of Florida. They provide an array of services to the electronic manufacturing and aerospace industries including obsolescence and long lead-time solutions, electronic component testing, inventory re-marketing, and kitting services. The company was founded in 2008 on a very small scale and has since received many awards and accolades for rapid business growth, even in a down economy.
