Proceeds to Benefit Foundation’s Patient Transport Van
Space Coast Cancer Foundation will hold its 5th annual Daffodil Gala on Saturday, September 10 to assist in the purchase and funding of a patient transport van, a service that will provide Space Coast Cancer Center’s patients with a reliable means of transportation to and from their appointments. This year’s event will be held at the Holiday Inn Melbourne-Viera Conference Center Hotel and promises to include a night of entertainment, dancing, delicious cuisine and socializing with community leaders of the Space Coast.
Space Coast Cancer Foundation was established in May 2006 to assist cancer patients and caregivers of Brevard County with the financial and emotional demands that come with a cancer diagnosis. This includes direct financial assistance to help pay for items such as pain medication, anti-nausea medication, utilities and transportation. The SCCC patient transport van will be included in one of the many services offered to cancer patients and their families. Proceeds from the event will assist in the purchase, maintenance and operational costs.
In addition to assisting cancer patients and their caregivers, the Foundation’s board of directors supports local oncology education and research. Ten $200 educational scholarships are available for the oncology nurses at each area hospital. This enables oncology nurses to receive financial reimbursement for the expense of going to courses to maintain their oncology and chemotherapy certification. SCCF sponsors community education seminars and workshops and also participates in educational events sponsored by other members of the healthcare community.
Locations include offices in Titusville, Merritt Island, Cocoa Beach and Viera. Physicians see patients in each office location and also have privileges at Parrish Medical Center in Titusville, Wuesthoff Medical Center in Rockledge, Cape Canaveral Hospital in Cocoa Beach and Viera Hospital.
