Steve Johnson took the helm of Health First in September 2011. By 2012, Johnson and his executive team paved the way for an Integrated Delivery Network, and this year the fruits of their labor are flourishing.
“Health First’s primary objective has been to transform us from a traditional hospital company to an Integrated Delivery Network. The difference may sound subtle, but is actually profound. A hospital-oriented company focuses on fixing people when they “break;” an Integrated Delivery Network uses its treatment settings (such as Pro-Health & Fitness Centers, Health First Home Care, Health First Outpatient Services) and its clinicians (such as members of the Health First Medical Group, independent physicians, nurses and other clinicians) to increasingly focus on preventing illness and improving wellness,” Johnson explained.
Health First also recently formed the Health First Medical Group between MIMA and Health First Physicians to create the largest physicians group in Brevard County. In fact, they have increased their employee base from 7,100 to 7,800. It also formed a partnership with Florida Hospital to expand its health insurance products into Volusia and Flagler counties.
Health First also plays an integral role in helping to create a healthier future for Brevard County and beyond. In 2012 alone, Health First’s support of the community totaled more than $118 million.
While the times in health care are indeed challenging, we have a great team, a supportive community and a sound strategy. I am a firm believer that with challenging times also come great opportunities. We will find those opportunities and bring them to life.”
