NAME: Robert Underill, DMD

EDUCATION: 1980 graduate of the University of Florida College of Dentistry

MARRIED: 20 years to Juliet, my better half by more than half 

CHILDREN: Two daughters: Zoe (18) and Bailey (15) – the lights of my life.

YEARS IN BREVARD: My family moved to Melbourne in 1959.

What inspired you to enter the field of dentistry? I’ve always been drawn to the sciences and enjoyed helping people.  For me, it was the perfect fit.

What do you love about your job? Definitely building long-term relationships with my patients.  I also love that every day is different and that dentistry is constantly evolving.

What is the most challenging aspect of operating a business in today’s health care field? Building and motivating an exceptional team that enables and supports me in providing the best care for my patients.

What is the most recent medical mission trip you’ve embarked upon? My family travels to the mountain villages outside of Cusco, Peru each spring to supply, organize and operate a dental clinic for the Quechua people.

What is the most adventurous thing you’ve done in your lifetime? I traveled to southern Chile and kayaked the Futaleufú River, believed by many to be the best and toughest whitewater river in the world.

Personally, what do you hope to accomplish this year? To talk my youngest daughter out of pursuing a career in acting!

Professionally, what do you hope to accomplish this year? I hope to establish and fund an ongoing dental hygiene program for the people we work with in Peru.

Who do you admire and why? My father, who taught me patience and the value of hard work.
