Travis Proctor – Artemis
It was his sophomore year at Florida Tech, back in 1995, when Travis Proctor launched his IT company Artemis. Twenty years later, they are adding employees and experiencing double-digit growth in both their cloud services and managed services business lines. Having navigated their way through a successful merger, which also led to building and then selling their 25,000-sq.ft. data center (now TerraCom Direct), Proctor has emerged as one of the area’s most successful and respected business leaders.
Proctor’s favorite quote is by Nora Roberts. “If you don’t go after what you want, you’ll never have it. If you don’t ask, the answer is always no. If you don’t step forward, you’re always in the same place.” It is a maxim he has pursued, both in leading his company and in serving as an example to his employees in their service to the community, which includes local nonprofit boards like the Economic Development Commission of Florida’s Space Coast, Junior Achievement, Florida Tech, Brevard Achievement Center and others.
Always cognizant that an IT business is first a business, not just about staying ahead of the technology innovation curve, Proctor observed, “While perhaps it’s not an exciting headline, one of the most important initiatives over the past 18 months has been to focus on the scalability of our organization. Rapid growth brings much excitement, but it can also put a lot of stress on systems and team members. It is important that the systems and processes put in place enable us to consistently deliver a high quality of services and are in line with our core values as we continue to focus on company growth.”
“I have always believed that the key to success is to surround yourself with good people, and never has this lesson been more important than over the past year, as the company continues to grow and turns its focus to geographic expansion.”
