Customized Data Protection
Information security is a pressing issue for businesses and individuals – it can enable your business to operate better, but any breech can come at a high cost. TerraCom Direct, located in Melbourne, provides total solutions for safeguarding connectivity and communications to support their customers, wherever they are.
TerraCom Direct’s 25,000-sq.ft. facility incorporates state-of-the-art data center construction techniques and is designed to withstand a Category 5 hurricane. Services include colocation of clients’ servers and infrastructure, cloud hosting (including private and public options), as well as consulting expertise to develop and implement customized solutions for virtually any size business.
The Need for Data Security
The need for data center services is being driven by a tsunami of industry demand. In the healthcare space, the growing need for security, data protection, and HIPAA compliance has forced physicians, clinics, and healthcare practices to seek out secured and managed solutions that mitigate their risk while allowing them to focus on patient care.
“The completion of our purpose-built data center facility in 2012 launched our offerings for customers in the local marketplace, as well as across the country,” said Rich Pilock, president of TerraCom Direct.
“We are suited to the Space Coast and the I-4 Corridor because of the high-tech and compliance driven businesses in and around the area. We provide technology services that can be easily customized to support large or small customers and by offering a ‘pay as you grow’ model, the costs for a business startup are greatly reduced, as well as for established businesses wishing to optimize cost and operational efficiencies.”
Custom Personalized Solutions
Its SSAE16 (Statement on Standards for Attestation Engagements) compliance ensures that proper controls and protection methodologies have been established for the safety and security of clients’ data. In order to further strengthen controls, the company recently established HIPAA-focused policies and procedures that enhance their internal processes for further protection of sensitive data.
“Due to the high demand for services in the healthcare market, we have chosen to place a strong focus on this vertical. However, with the services and solutions we provide, we can support business of all types,” said Frank Huston, vice president and chief operating officer.
“The greatest selling point for having a data center on the Space Coast is that we can provide custom, personalized solutions in the local market, designed by our in-house cloud architects, while still allowing for geographic replication where needed. Additionally, many businesses in the area prefer to deal with providers that are locally owned and operated. We are part of Satcom Direct, a global company that is based right here in Brevard County. While we have a national presence, our commitment to Central Florida and the I-4 corridor is clear.”
“Some of our long-term goals include expansion of our facility and replication to other data centers throughout the U.S. We are currently working on adding a data center in the western U.S. In the not too distant future, you can also expect to see us expand our service offerings,” said Huston.
According to Mike Ferber, systems security manager, the next big thing in data center solutions is security services. “The need for data security in healthcare has never been greater. In a recent article by Healthcare IT News, it was noted that healthcare data is estimated to have 20 times greater value per record than credit card data. In an effort to help our customers fight this growing risk, we partner with service providers to deliver proactive and ongoing security monitoring and analysis both in the cloud and for traffic originating from their site and even remote users.” Along with its expert partners, TerraCom Direct has its own on-staff security experts. Ferber is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), the globally recognized standard in information security, and has a Security+ certification. The operation is currently SOC 1 Type 2 compliant and is in the process of completing its SOC 2 AT section 101 compliance assessment.
