Kevin Capella-Valle moved to Florida when he was 15 years old to pursue his dream of playing college baseball. He attended and graduated from Lake Mary High School in Orlando, and during his senior year, he was scouted by Matt Mercurio, Florida Tech’s assistant coach and recruiter coordinator. Capella-Valle liked the baseball program and level of education Florida Tech had to offer, and he agreed to attend the institute on July 23, 2014.

Capella-Valle majored in Construction Management during his freshman and sophomore years, but he realized construction was not a good fit for his personality. He enjoyed sports more than anything else, so at the beginning of his junior year he changed his major to Business Administration/Sports Management. He got involved doing work-study programs with the athletic trainer to gain experience in his field and did a sports marketing internship with All Stars Are Bright Corporation in the summer of 2017.

Currently, Capella-Valle is working in the FIT Athletic Communications Office as an athletic communications assistant. He has learned a great deal about sports management, professional requirements and industry-specific nuances that will help him succeed in this competitive field. Capella-Valle said playing baseball at FIT has been the most wonderful experience of his life, and he credits his parents with constantly motivating him in his life and baseball career.

“If it wasn’t for them, all of my accomplishments wouldn’t have been possible,” he said.  ◆
