Cocoa, FL October 9, 2019 – The Space Coast Office of Tourism is delighted to announce Brian Blanchard as their new Assistant Director of Tourism beginning on October 14. Mr. Blanchard comes to the organization from Merritt Island, having most recently worked at Canaveral Port Authority as Director, Recreation and Guest Experience and Senior Director of Operations. There he oversaw cruise operations, parking, and ground transportation, which combine for 81% of Port revenues. He was also responsible for communication between all Port entities and major cruise clients to assure seamless guest experiences from start to finish and he acted as a senior staff member participating in Port strategic master planning and capital projects.
Mr. Blanchard is an experienced management professional with over 20 years experience in various aspects of the hospitality industry, having spent over 12 years with various attractions such as Universal Orlando and Cypress Gardens. His experience includes operations and process reengineering, project planning and scheduling, budget planning and administration, and team building and mentoring.
Mr. Blanchard is a natural leader and effective team player, able to manage a variety of projects from conception to completion. His responsibilities will include overseeing office operations, capital projects, finance, research, visitor services and the sports commission. He will also provide backup support to the Executive Director, Peter Cranis, when necessary. Mr. Blanchard has a Bachelor of Arts in Public Relations from Eastern Kentucky University. He is a graduate of Lead Brevard, a past member of the Propeller Club Port Canaveral and a former member of the Board of Directors of the Cocoa Beach Chamber of Commerce.
He resides in Merritt Island with his wife, Erika, and daughter Ava, age 7.
