chsilogoCape Canaveral, Florida – Comprehensive Health Services (CHSi) will be presented the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), 2016 Dwight D. Eisenhower Award for Excellence for Services during the 2016 National Small Business Week celebration in Washington, D.C. in May.

The Eisenhower Award recognizes large prime government contractors that have excelled in their engagement and utilization of small businesses as suppliers and subcontractors. A single nationwide award is made each year in each of these five categories: manufacturing, service, research and development, construction, and utilities. CHSi won in the service category.

“CHSi’s support enabled us to obtain our first SBA 8(a) sole source contract. Through our Mentor Protégé relationship with CHSi, every department has graciously provided time and advice,” said 8-Koi President, Inga Young. “This support and encouragement has allowed us to become an independently competitive government contractor.”

8-Koi is an SBA certified 8(a) and economically disadvantaged, woman-owned small business. From their location in Melbourne, Florida, 8-Koi provides specialized services in government contract accounting and consulting and domestic and international staffing solutions.

CHSi’s small business subcontracting has steadily increased over the past 5 years, a $9 million increase. Contract values with small disadvantaged businesses have increased 402{099636d13cf70efd8d812c6f6a5a855fb6f8f27f35bea282d2df1d5ae896e2c2} over the same period. CHSi accomplished this dramatic increase by maintaining excellent rapport with the community and outsourced support companies, willingly providing education and assistance to inquiring small businesses.

“Supporting small businesses is a priority for CHSi. The appointment of Susanne Cummings as the Supplier Diversity Manager and Small Business Liaison Officer has had a significant impact on our small business subcontracting values,” said CHSi President Gary Palmer. “She has reached out and engaged small businesses that complement our core lines of business and built strong enduring relationships.”
