Company Name: Ambassador Services, Inc.
When Randy May moved to the Space Coast in 1974, he arrived with an instinct for business and a willingness to try new things. “Just getting familiar with the area, I was immediately struck by the potential of Port Canaveral,” he explains. “I thought the area was going to grow, and felt pretty certain that many elements of the Port would make it a strong driver of that growth.” The company started in 1981 as R & L May Steamship Agency and changed its name to Ambassador Services Inc. in 1994. At that time, May brought in two partners, Don Garver and Brian Hubert, who had been helping him build the business since 1985. With all three working together, the company now handles a vast array of services to meet its clients’ needs, including extensive cargo handling options, the largest cold storage facility on the Southeast coast, highly experienced stevedores, and advanced specialized equipment. Their non-union staff of 216 (and growing) employees serves clients such as Morton Salt, Tropicana, Disney and Walmart. ◆
