After graduating from Kennesaw State University in her home state of Georgia with a degree in communication, Jennifer Sugarman was drawn to the Space Coast by her love of the beach and the opportunities in the area. Looking to utilize her passion for crafting messages and connecting people, she joined the Cocoa Beach Regional Chamber of Commerce first as the director of the Convention & Visitors Bureau, and then as president and CEO of the Chamber in July 2015, where she has used her skills to help small businesses succeed and keep her community engaged with the help of her talented team.
As a member of several associations in the community, as well as founder of the Cocoa Beach Regional Young Professionals Group, she dedicates both her personal and professional energies to engaging and uplifting others, with a focus on looking out for other women entering the field.
“My advice for any woman looking to lead a chamber specifically or jump into the business world is to be clear about what you want, be patient and be kind to yourself,” said Sugarman. “The takeaway is, you shouldn’t wait until you feel fully qualified to go for what you want. The time is now. Have full confidence in yourself that you are a competent, smart and fully capable woman who can make anything you set your mind to happen.”
Sugarman is also a proud new mom to son Emmett, and she is still learning the ropes of balancing all of these roles, or rather, how to accept an unavoidable lack of it.
“I’ve learned there really is no such thing as the perfect balance, only tough decisions that are made daily to fit it all in,” she said. “Women in this community and all over do this regularly, and that’s truly inspiring to me.”
