Elder Law Attorney Stephen J. Lacey concentrates his practice in the areas of Medicaid and VA planning, asset protection, tax and estate planning, probate, guardianship, and real estate and business transaction law. He is committed to helping clients navigate the legal systems by providing honest answers where they are hard to find.
Stephen is experienced in the formulation of estate plans to not only achieve clients’ testamentary goals, but also maximize their tax benefits and minimize probate. He recognizes that some individuals are at a higher risk of lawsuits and judgments. Many of these individuals have benefited from Stephen’s vast knowledge of proper asset protection planning that can ensure that all their personal and business assets are protected in the event of a large unforeseen lawsuit or medical catastrophe.
Stephen is particularly sensitive to issues commonly faced by seniors. He focuses on helping the elderly and their families recognize their long-term care objectives by developing strategies for ensuring financial security even the midst of some of life’s most challenging circumstances. With his immense knowledge of Medicaid, Stephen is adept at helping clients, who are faced with the need for nursing home care, qualify for needed benefits. He is also sensitive to the needs of veterans by providing advice and guidance regarding such programs as Aid and Attendance and survivor’s benefits.
Stephen has provided tax and legal advice to board members of municipal organizations, non-profit organizations and private foundations. He has furnished legal services to clients for tax-free exchanges of real estate and facilitated large commercial real estate closings. In addition, business organizations have benefited from his advice in developing organizational documents.
Stephen is admitted to the Florida, Virginia, and Georgia State Bars. He is also a member of the Florida Bar Association, the Florida Bar Real Property, Probate & Trust Law Section, and the Florida Bar Elder Law Section. He currently serves on the board of Trinity Towers and is a founding board member of the Children’s Hunger Project. He is the 2014 chairman of the Underwriting Committee for the Health First Foundation Ball and is a monthly contributor to Florida Today with articles about issues important to Brevard’s senior population.
