Michael Ayers is a strategic leader in the community with a proven track record of managing government agencies, political campaigns and community-based organizations. Ayers has spent more than 17 years in government relations, management and political marketing throughout Washington, D.C., Illinois, Tallahassee and Brevard County. He joined the Melbourne Regional Chamber as president and chief executive officer on January 15, 2018.
Most recently, he served as director of government relations for Sanford Burnham Prebys (SBP) Medical Discovery Institute in Lake Nona, where he was responsible for developing and implementing the institute’s state and federal legislative agenda, focusing on new revenue streams for research funding.
Prior to SBP, Ayers served for eight years in Florida state government as the chief of staff for Agency for Workforce Innovation (AWI), Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) and Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD). He started his career as a congressional aide and also spent several years running political campaigns.
In addition to improving operations and creating efficiencies within organizations, his strengths include advocacy, communication and building high-performing teams. Ayers brings the enthusiasm, knowledge and leadership needed to keep the chamber at the forefront of everything happening in the community. He strongly believes in creating healthy, vibrant relationships within the community and feels that collaboration with businesses, individuals and community partners are the key to making an impact and fostering a positive economic business climate on the Space Coast.
The Melbourne Regional Chamber, founded in 1925, operates on a solid foundation and has a long and rich history supporting the business community. Ayers is passionate about building this community and has a dedicated vision to continue to serve its members through increased advocacy, events and value-added programming in order to ensure continued success and growth for businesses of all sizes. ◆
