Karen DeLeo

MELBOURNE, Fla. – October 7, 2020 – When Karen DeLeo got into the real estate closing business in 1999, she entered with the intent of becoming a leading title company on Florida’s Space Coast. When Kim Jackson, DeLeo’s identical twin sister joined her in 2003, they not only doubled their ability to serve clients, they opened additional locations and began serving a large swath of central Florida.

This year, the sisters, who grew up in Haines City and spent their early careers in the banking industry in Polk County, are celebrating 20 years in business. That is no small feat, considering the dot com burst of the early 2000s, and the recession from 2007-2009 that saw many companies in the real estate sector close their doors for good.

Despite those turbulent times, DeLeo and Jackson persevered and now oversee a company with offices in Melbourne and Titusville, and a recently opened third in Davenport, located between Kissimmee and Lakeland, in Polk County.

To say their business is booming, would be an understatement. Sales of new and existing residential and commercial properties, as well as refinancing by owners who have seen marked appreciation in property values, continues to be strong, with interest rates at historic lows.

It’s not just the market that is contributing to their success. The sisters have built the company on a foundation of trust, professionalism, attention to detail and exceptional customer service. “There are dozens of title companies in Brevard and Polk Counties from which sellers of real estate can choose,” said DeLeo. “To stay in this business and have the success we’ve had takes going the extra mile every day, ensuring our work is without error and our clients get a superior level of service from the beginning to the end of every closing.”

While in the recent past, the company’s agents would gladly travel to a location of their client’s choosing to complete the paperwork, their focus now is on providing the same level of professional service in more virtual and non-contact ways. Prior to the pandemic, the sisters invested in technology that allows them to perform tele-closings, including e-notary video confirmation also known as Remote Online Notarization and e-signing of documents so that clients can complete the process via teleconference and electronically sign all necessary documents, without the need of leaving their home.

If a client needs to drop off documents or wants to complete their paperwork in one of its three offices, protocols have been taken to maintain social distance and ensure all surfaces and writing utensils are sanitized between appointments.

With an eye to the future, the sisters see the market remaining strong and the need for both residential and commercial properties continuing to grow. “With the increase in commercial aerospace programs and expansion in the defense, technology, health care and manufacturing sectors, Brevard and all of central Florida has a bright future,” DeLeo said. “And we intend to be here to help everyone buy the properties of their dreams!”
