MELBOURNE, FL – Wuesthoff Health System officials announced today that they have executed a definitive agreement to purchase the assets of Osler Medical, a 47-provider multi-specialty physician practice based in Melbourne, Florida. With this acquisition, the Osler physicians and allied health professionals will become employed by a subsidiary of Wuesthoff Health System. This transaction is effective as of November 1.

“We are excited to welcome Osler Medical into the Wuesthoff Health System family,” said Wuesthoff Chief Executive Officer Steve Patonai. “The Osler providers are highly respected in this region by their patients and other providers. I believe the entire community will greatly benefit from this new partnership.”

Under the agreement, Wuesthoff will acquire the Osler Medical assets and employ the Osler providers under a shared governance model. The multispecialty group practice with several clinic sites throughout Brevard County will continue under the Osler Medical name.

“Osler Medical has strategically committed the organization to clinical excellence within the care delivery of an integrated health system,” said Osler Medical CEO Bob Boyle. “This is the future of medicine and will provide for future growth of the group.”

The Osler agreement is another example of Wuesthoff’s efforts to broaden physician relationships in the community since it joined Health Management Associates in October 2010.

“This partnership gives Osler Medical access to the resources of a larger health care system, which helps us pursue our goals and other strategic initiatives,” said Martin Lenoci, chairman of Osler Medical’s Board of Directors. “We believe that this move will position Osler Medical to play an important role in the expansion and delivery of exceptional health care on the Space Coast.”

Wuesthoff Health System is a regional integrated health care system which includes 298-bed Wuesthoff Medical Center – Rockledge; 115-bed Wuesthoff Medical Center – Melbourne; Wuesthoff Progressive Care Center, a 114-bed skilled nursing facility; Towne Square, an 89-unit assisted living facility; and other health-related services such as home care, inpatient and outpatient hospice, Wal-Mart retail clinics, diagnostic centers, home medical equipment stores and a statewide medical reference laboratory.
