“Pediatrics in Brevard Celebrates 50 Years of Taking Care of Brevard County Children”
Brevard County, FL (March 18, 2020) Pediatrics in Brevard, the largest, independent practice of board-certified pediatric physicians and nurse practitioners celebrates 50 years of serving Brevard County families.
Launched by Dr. Thomas Philpott in 1970, the first Pediatrics in Brevard office was located on Merritt Island; five decades later, the practice has grown to four offices with nearly 63,000 patients, 12 physicians and eight nurse practitioners. The pediatric practice sees patients beginning in infancy, all the way through 18 years of age. Specializing in everything children face throughout their growing years, the medical practices primary focus is optimal physical, mental and social health from birth to adolescents to young adults.
According to Dr. Mary Ulrich, FAAP, Co-CEO of Pediatrics in Brevard, and a 20-year veteran of the practice, much has changed over the years when it comes to taking care of pediatric patients. “There are far fewer critically ill children and fewer hospital admissions, thanks to vaccines,” said Ulrich. “However, our primary challenges include a dramatic increase in anxiety and depression as well as an increase in autism, with limited access to psychologists and psychiatrists.”
Among the many pediatric services provided, the practice places great emphasis on keeping kids from getting sick through expansive wellness visit initiatives; in addition, Pediatrics in Brevard offers free newborn care classes to include topics
ranging from breastfeeding and immunizations to circumcision and the importance of well visits.
Office locations across Brevard County include Rockledge, Melbourne, Cocoa Beach, and Viera. Unlike other groups, the practice also offers weekend opportunities for families including Saturday appointments in the Melbourne office and Sunday appointments in the Rockledge location. Additional options for services include providing a ‘Morning Clinic’ option from 8 to 9 am at both Rockledge and Melbourne offices.
“It feels great to be part of such an excellent team of pediatric healthcare providers who not only care about children, but one another,” added Ulrich. “I’m also honored to work with a group who has such a history of excellence. Most importantly, I’m proud that we continue to work to provide and improve the already exemplary pediatric care in our county,” added Ulrich.
Pediatrics in Brevard is also recognized by the National Committee for Quality Assurance as a Level 3 Patient-Centered Medical Home, the highest level of recognition for any U.S. based medical provider.
