NAME: William Capote

TITLE/COMPANY: Mayor, City of Palm Bay

MARRIED: Yes, to Anita

CHILDREN: 2 sons, Guillermo and Gabriel

YEARS IN BREVARD: 19 years

What inspired you to run for mayor?

Ultimately, I wanted to make a difference. After serving on the city council for three years, I felt I had a clear view of where the city was headed. With the support of my family and friends, I was confident that as mayor I could steer Palm Bay in a different direction.

What is the most challenging aspect of being a mayor?

I believe that my greatest challenge as mayor is finding the time to do all that I envision doing. I find that I want to do everything and at the same time please everyone; in all honesty, the rewards far outweigh the challenges.

What do you think are the most important issues facing tourism in Brevard County?

In my opinion the most important issue in regards to tourism is bringing our facilities and venues up to the five-star standards that tourists have come to expect from Orlando. We need to draw the tourists to our beautiful beaches, and in order to do that, we need to have upscale hotels and resorts.

Personally, what do you hope to accomplish this year?

Personally, my heart is with the youth of our community. Over the course of this next year, I plan to continue to build up the Youth Advisory Board and through this encourage and support our youth in taking an active part in our community. Additionally, I plan to continue to mentor and reach out to our youth through visiting the various schools, clubs and youth organizations.

What do you hope to accomplish for Palm Bay this coming year?

I plan to continue building upon our regional partnerships and extend our partnerships internationally through the sister city international program.

When you’re not working, what would people find you doing or be surprised to know about you?

When I am not working I am very easy going, except when it comes to the Miami Dolphins – I am a diehard fan! I enjoying relaxing and watching my favorite TV shows usually on my DVR, like Law and Order SVU, Person of Interest and any other cop show. I also enjoy cycling and most sports.
