Dr. S. Ann Becker, Dean of Florida Tech’s Nathan M. Bisk College of Business, has spent more than 22 years in academia.  She attributes her success as one of Brevard’s most prominent female leaders and educators to several strong female role models in her past that have helped steer her to this current position – starting with her mother.

“My mother taught me and my nine siblings we could accomplish anything, but it would require hard work, commitment, and believing in oneself.  Since she was only educated through the eighth grade, she always stressed the importance of higher education in attaining our career goals,” said Becker.

Keeping Your Edge

When asked what advice she would give to women today looking to reach their own goals in business, Becker said setting core values to define one’s career aspirations and using them as a driver to achieve these goals is mandatory.  “My personal perspective is that lifelong learning is a factor in today’s rapidly changing, technology-driven environment.  Because many colleges and universities, including FIT, offer online, campus and off-site courses that target working professionals, there is now an ongoing opportunity for women to educationally stay current and relevant in the global business world.

Dr. Becker admits she is thankful to have taken advantage of furthering her own education and she is excited to be a part of FIT’s College of Business and to be able to live here on Florida’s Space Coast.  Known by her family and friends as “Annie,” Becker said she enjoys the opportunity she now has to interact with all of FIT’s stakeholders – including students, parents, alumni, and the community at large – in pursuit of the core values that the College of Business has set: Innovation, Diversity, Ethics and Leadership.

“As an academician, I am always exploring ways to challenge students to think critically and innovatively.  I really enjoy interacting with faculty at FIT, as well as other community leaders to identify relevant education programs that will continue to meet the needs of Florida Tech’s students.”
