Brevard’s Early Learning Coalition Readies Tomorrow’s Leaders
Much more is now known about what occurs in the brains of infants and young children. Based on decades of brain research, we know the significant impact – good or bad – that can occur while a young child’s brain is developing. Support provided by the Early Learning Coalition of Brevard allows children to have access to early learning environments that encourage experiences that grow children’s brains.
The Role of the Business Community
The Early Learning Coalition of Brevard currently services approximately 3,400 children each month through the School Readiness program. In order to do so, the Coalition works closely with approximately 180 child care centers, family child care homes, public school sites and faith-based child care providers who offer high quality early learning experiences to eligible families. The Coalition works closely with the contracted child care providers to ensure that the services provided are of high quality and developmentally appropriate. Many opportunities for professional development are provided by the Coalition as well as technical assistance and voluntary program assessments to enhance their programs.
The Child Care Executive Partnership program (CCEP) allows local businesses to support their employees with the cost of child care. Employees who have access to stable child care arrangements are shown to have greater attendance and productivity. Through the CCEP program, employers pledge to pay 50 percent of the cost of child care, which allows the Early Learning Coalition to draw down the remaining 50 percent from State funds. If you are interested in learning more about the CCEP program, contact Cathie Odom at (321) 637-1800 Ext. 2012 or email@example.com
Future of Funding
Due to changes in how Florida’s Office of Early Learning distributes the statewide funding for the School Readiness program, Brevard County lost $500,000 in funding for the current fiscal year. The School Readiness program is on track to lose a total of $5 million over the next 5 years. The support of the local community is more important now than ever.
The Rockledge Rotary Club has once again selected the Early Learning Coalition of Brevard as the partnering organization for this year’s Derby Day event. Derby Day is scheduled for Saturday, May 4, 2013 from 3-8 p.m. at the Holiday Inn in Viera. Click here to view pictures from last year’s Derby Day event.
