In 1879, Titusville was annexed to Brevard County and voted to be the county seat. The county’s boundaries were challenged in 1905 when Cocoa began urging for the relocation of the county seat to a more central sight; Eau Gallie also joined in the fray, arguing it would be the optimal sight. The final election results were: 85 for Eau Gallie, 372 for Cocoa, and 498 for retaining Titusville as the county seat.
